An E-mail I received today from the HumaneTeens newsletter:
Take a Bite Out of IHOP's Animal Cruelty!IHOP investigation
You know it's cruel to cram hens in battery cages so small the birds can't even spread their wings. But IHOP is refusing to join other major restaurant chains in switching some of its eggs to cage-free. It's using only eggs from hens confined in cages so tiny, each bird has less space than a single sheet of paper to live.
And now, an undercover investigation has revealed shocking abuses at IHOP's egg supplier. The footage shows filthy conditions, sick and injured hens, and birds forced to live in cages with the dead bodies of their cage-mates. (Watch the video here.)
We need you to help move IHOP in the right direction!
If you are on Facebook, please join IHOP's fan page and urge it to move away from battery cage eggs. Follow these easy steps:
* Go to facebook.com/IHOP. Log in to Facebook and click "Become a fan."
* Write a brief, polite note on IHOP's Wall. You can say that IHOP should start using eggs that don't come from cruelly caged hens, and should at least match other restaurants' efforts for animal welfare.
* Join our IHOP Facebook Cause and sign the petition there.
If you want to help even more, call Argonne, a company that owns many IHOP restaurants, at 404-364-2984. (If voicemail picks up, press "1" for Michael Klump, Argonne's president.) Again, be brief and polite and make the points in the Facebook message above. This could be a long distance call, so if you're under 18, be sure to have permission!
