The United Nations estimates that two-thirds of the world’s population will not have enough water in 2025 unless something is done. For the village of Mehdiganj, India, that bleak future is already here. Located in northeastern India, Mehdiganj has suffered water shortages for years, due in part to Coke’s irresponsible and dangerous actions in their community.
Coke is expanding aggressively into the bottled water industry. Through water depletion, pollution, and price gouging, Coke’s practices threaten water supplies around the world. Coke is dramatically depleting groundwater in India with little regard for the impact on communities. In rural India, when wells dry up or water is diverted from irrigation to a Coke factory, people’s lives are put at risk.
Coke has drained so much water that at least five Indian communities face severe water shortages and health problems. In Plachimada, Coke’s illegal water extraction dried up hundreds of public hand-pump wells and squeezed irrigation supplies—leading the Kerala High Court to rule that groundwater is common property, and to impose limits on corporate use of water.
Coke must stop stealing water from local communities. For starters, the soft drink giant must:
* Never reopen its plant in Plachimada,
* Close its plant in Mehdiganj, and
* Pay back affected communities for the damages it’s inflicted.

There was also a site called "killercoke," which claimed that Coke was responsible for the murders of several people. Apparently, the site is gone, however. It was located at www.killercoke.com.

Coca-Cola has an official "Animal Welfare Policy" proclaiming:
"The Coca-Cola Company does not endorse or condone any practice of cruelty to animals, and the Company does not sponsor or promote events where there is a risk of physical harm to animals. Additionally, The Coca-Cola Company does not sponsor rodeos or bullfighting events. "
However, Coca-Cola is a prominently displayed major sponsor at many of the world's largest rodeos, such as the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo, the Pendleton Round-Up, and the Houston Rodeo. For years SHARK has documented abuse, injuries, and deaths at rodeos around the country, and made our investigative video and photos available to anyone via our sites such as RodeoCruelty.com and TheCruelTruth.com
