What is your opinion on bringing animals into captivity?
In my opinion, the only moral reason to bring an animal into captivity is if it cannot survive on its own, or if the species is about to die out. I honestly think if a species is about to die out, however, that they should try to also fix why the species is dying out. Much more should be done to help these species out.
I do not believe in bringing any animals into captivity. Often, pet stores sell wild animals, like snakes, hermit crabs, etc., and I do not believe that these animals can be fully happy in captivity. You cannot fully manipulate these animals' habitats most of the time.
These animals are also quite dangerous.
My mother has also told me how tigers and other big cats get declawed and how painful it is for them. I haven't really researched it myself, however.

I think that if it's going to be a companion animal, it needs to be bred in captivity. That means cats and dogs (unless they're strays, or bred from feral cats/dogs), and also turtles, snakes, etc. Being taken from the wild and into a home has got to be stressful and depressing.
I noticed when we first got my turtle, he had a nick in the bottom of his shell. It wasn't too deep or too big, but it was a chunk taken out of his shell. Come on, ouch! And we think that he was wild-born and that happened when he was captured, loaded in a box with other turtles, and shipped to a pet store. Turtle shells aren't soft. If something did that to a turtle shell (whether it was another turtle, or a man-made object) then it must really suck to be a wild-caught snake or hermie.
I have the same view for tigers and other zoo animals (if it isn't a companion animal or zoo animal it shouldn't be in captivity). The zoo's gotta suck, so don't make it worse by introducing a wild animal. If it was an animal born in captivity, then go ahead and keep it. But wild animals should stay in the wild, where they're happiest.
For endangered species, we should keep a few and breed them the best we can WHILE REPAIRING THE DAMAGE THAT WE DID TO DRIVE THEM TO THAT POINT. Because if they're dying off, breeding 1000 to release back into the habitat to die won't help. ._.

Hermit crabs indeed have it pretty tough.

Aww... Why haven't I learned to stop watching the depressing videos you post?
That really sucks, I'm surprised the hermies don't all die from the stress...
