They should have done this a long time ago. I love snakes and all- having four of them- its just they're not meant to be kept in captivity, especially in a house with small children. My only wish is that they will come up with some kind of regulation on large pythons, like an inspection system to make sure the snake at least has adequate housing. What do you guys think?
The Associated Press TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida officials are considering a ban on Burmese pythons after a pet snake killed a 2-year-old girl last month.
Col. Julie Jones, director of law enforcement for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on Wednesday told Gov. Charlie Crist that her agency is studying that option.
Crist also praised the commission's efforts to hunt for the invasive species, which can grow up to 26 feet long, in the wild during a visit to the agency's Tallahassee headquarters.
The governor had asked for the program after an 8 1/2-foot Burmese python escaped its tank and strangled Shaianna Hare at her central Florida home July 1.

The thing that worries me about this is that people are going to still get these snakes from somewhere, and they'll just end up being killed. If people believe that they can get away with something by not telling people about it, they're going to try. When they get caught, it's going to be the snake that's going to get the most punishment. Maybe it's better for the snakes that are going to be left in the wild, though, because of people who obey the law.
