Cyber-Bullying/ Internet Harrassment

I found this on the Proboard support forum and thought I'd pass it along.

The freedom of speech is a wonderful thing and so are internet communities. People can have serious or light-hearted conversations and exchange opinions on various subjects. Sometimes people may disagree and that is just part of a discussion, nothing wrong with it.
But some people just randomly yell out insults like "troll", "noob", "idiot", "no one cares about your problems", as a response to serious threads. Such people should just get banned or at least suspended from the forum for a while. Lots of internet communities just let it slide, but they shouldn't, we should urge all internet communities to make sure that their forums are safe to write in, without people yelling out random insults!

Cyber-bullying is a serious issue. I know from experience that it can have horrific effects on your self-esteem and happiness. It could even feel as bad as real-life bullying if the bully tries hard enough. Sometimes, it can be even worse, but of course real-life bullying usually has more of an effect on a person.

it's amazing to me, how people brush off harassing others on the internet as being nothing serious. there are and were people in this world fragile enough to be driven to suicide because of this widespread issue. people can get away with just about anything on the internet, so it really disgusts me how much humans will abuse that bit of freedom by going wild and trying to attack every person they see.

there somehow needs to be more consequences for the more foul things people do on the internet..
