This summer, thousands of caterpillars will venture on their journey to create their cocoons and eventually either turn into beautiful butterflies or moths. On their way, they will probably cross a road or two. On this road will be cars that will have many opportunities to crush the poor thing's bodies without anyone even noticing. However, if you could save them by helping them cross the street (picking them up,) you can save countless lives!
Safety Tips: -Wear rubber gloves, especially if the caterpillar is strange-looking. Many caterpillar species are poisonous and can leave you with a rash for days or even worse! -Do not do this by busy roads. -Watch for cars (obvious)and don't do this at night.
Other tips: -If there are a ton of caterpillars, bring a bucket, put them all inside of the bucket until you're done picking them all up, and dump them on the other side of the road. -Careful about dumping them in people's yards, especially if you have quite a few of them. They might not like it, especially hardcore gardeners.

Wow, I actually did this a few weeks ago.
Speaking of caterpillars, I went on a little nature hike today and saw some wooly bear caterpillars and a monarch caterpillar, which was a little more intriguing than it should have been for a 16 year old. lol.

I love callipittars! Yes I said callipittar! I saved one from being nearly crushed at camp last week. It was a baby looking one. He was black and fuzzy feeling and wasn't poisonous because I haven't gotten a rash or been sick.

Oh my goodness. The poisonous ones are not fun.
That's why I'm careful to pick up any unfamiliar caterpillar on a stick or leaf or something.
That also goes for wild snakes too. Pin their heads down before attempting to pick them up.

For the caterpillars, you can always buy a pair of rubber gloves at the dollar store or something similar.
