What keeps you fighting for animal rights?

For me, it's that every little thing counts in my opinion and that I can't stand around doing nothing as the world destroys itself. A side thing that helps is that helping others makes me feel better, but that is definitely not why I do what I've been doing since I was 12. My heart prohibits me from just sitting around thinking I can't do anything like most people do.

When I think about how many living beings are dying, right as I type these very words, I get angry and I want to do something. Knowing that most are being slaughtered for consumption makes it even worse. I know that one person can make all the difference, and feel that if I have saved atleast one life in the process, then I have done some good in this world.

I don't suppose that I'm fighting all that much. I went vegetarian, and if I have the self-control I'll be a vegan some day. When I have a job, regular donations will go to the ASPCA, or a similar organization. But for now, that's all I really can do.
Ever since I was little, I've been a lot closer to animals than to other people. Some of my best childhood memories involve my cat, Bitty, in some way or another. She was always able to make me smile, when I was sad. And she was always right there, happy to cuddle with me, when I was lonely. Even if I wasn't always there to return the favor. She was my best friend. And all the same can be said for my turtle, who's nothing less than my adopted son.
I fight because I remember Bitty, who was so sweet and kind. And Camille, Bitty's mother, who would never do anything to hurt anyone. And I look at my turtle's bright eyes, or my dog's goofy smiles, and I know that animals just like them are being tortured and abused every day. It's heartbreaking. And if I can make a difference in helping to end it, then I will.
