At school, the Adv. Bio class has to do a project for the Earth Day Fair, so I have a huge opportunity to do something on vegetarianism.
Topics I'll try to cover: -How the meat industry effects the environment. (the main one, since it is an Earth Day Fair) -The effects of meat on a human's health -How the factory farm animals are treated.
Some ideas I have: -Have a sheet with a ton of links where people could find out more about vegetarianism, including the link to VegTeens and tons of veggie starter kits. <---- Show them the veggie starter kit -Samples of vegan food. Maybe some mini vegan fake meat sandwiches. Tell people where they could get the stuff for it (Wegman's natural section.) <--- Little foldy thing or something on the table with lists of stores to purchase the products -Print out small magnets with the magnet sheets I have left, so people could possibly hang them in in their locker or whatever. -Get some stickers and possibly some leaflets from PETA. -MAYBE take in my laptop and show some videos. Only problem would be charging the battery. Will have to ask if there are any power outlets in the commons. -Foldable poster boards with some quick info. about the meat industry and veggie nutrition.

Each 8 oz steak requires 1232 gal of water. Environmentalism cannot accompany meat consumption.

I just learned the other day that it takes 1,232 gallons of water to make an 8 oz steak. It's an accurate fact posted by the OC Water Department, so it'd be a reliable fact to put into your presentation.

At my school, whenever there is a sort of holiday (not holiday, unsure of word) like thanksgiving, earth day, hug a vegetarian day, school spirit day, etc, I always make a big point to walk around scgool telling everyone about veganism in relation to that day. So in that way, I will do something for AR on Earth Day. Plus random veg promoting on facebook.

I just learned the other day that it takes 1,232 gallons of water to make an 8 oz steak. It's an accurate fact posted by the OC Water Department, so it'd be a reliable fact to put into your presentation. I don't think I included that on my tri-fold board. *facepalm* I'll have to include it in one of my videos. So now I am just tying together all the loose ends. I finished the huge tri-board that is over-packed with facts, and I have most of the magnets done, unless I buy more sheets of printable magnet paper. I'll have to see if I could get them by Thursday. Now, I just have to work on some videos, finish up the magnets, make the sandwiches next week, and ensure everything is 100% ready. I also am going to buy a T-shirt that says "vegetarian" on it that is really cool if my mom lets me. If it gets here by Thursday, I'll wear it, since we're supposed to have a dress down day that day. There are even fifth and sixth graders who will be coming over to see the Fair! That's going to be great, since young kids are quite open-minded and impressionable. I am just worried that they'll read the part of the vegetarian guides on how the animals are cruelly treated. I'm going to tape that part, but still they could always rip it off. I'll have to watch them. Then, after they're gone, I'll rip the tape off and hopefully not damage the guides. Excited! Oh, and here are some pictures: www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=20580&id=100000136748470

hey, i just did the same thing!! here are some ideas-- at my table i had a large bulletin board with facts pinned to it "Did you know that: ➜It takes 300 gallons of water to feed a vegan for a day, 1,200 to feed a vegetarian, and about 4200 to feed a meat-eater. ➜If all this grain was consumed directly by humans, it would nourish five times as many people as it does after it is converted into meat, milk and eggs. ➜Raising animal for "food" generates more green house gases then all the cars, trucks, train, and plane in the world combined. ➜Animal agriculture is the #1 cause of man-made dead zones (large ares of ocean which cannot support life,“ocean deserts”) ➜One pound of meat is equal to driving an SUV 40 miles. ➜Going vegetarian does far more for the environment then switching to a hybrid car. ➜It takes 16lbs of grain to produce just a single pound of meat." then i had a table covered with free leaflets (you can order great earth day leaflets from FARM here: www.biteglobalwarming.org/pacRequest.php)and meet your meat dvds, vegetarian starter kits, stickers, et cetera. i stood by the table and handed people literature as they walked by. really good activism opportunity, i hope it works out for you

It didn't go too bad, but it could've been better. For one, not as many people stopped at my table as I was hoping. Many people just looked at my table and walked away. I wish I hadn't been so subtle to most of the people, also, such as the ones who didn't want to give up the taste of meat. *facepalm* I also wished I had shown people what the meat industry was truly like, but I hadn't wanted to get into trouble for showing everyone graphic content, especially the smaller kids, who were only in fifth and sixth grade.
A few people, however, were quite interested, and some said they'd consider trying out vegetarianism, including one or two who claimed they couldn't because of their taste-buds. I hope they seriously do. A ton of the small kids grabs tons of magnets all at once, and I hope I've made an impression on them. I don't think there were a single person who didn't like the sandwiches, either. I wish I had made more copies of the vegan food pyramid magnets because of how the little kids grabbed them so fast due to their size. My teacher also wanted me to burn a copy of the video I created.
Who really disappointed me, however, was my teacher, who I thought was quite nice and respectable. In fact, he was one of my favorite teachers. He actually really peed me off, even though I tried not showing it. He had the guts to point to his eye teeth and say, "That's why God gave me these!" He then went on about how much he enjoyed cooked carcasses. He acted as if we were on the exact, same page and that I would totally accept his unthoughtfulness. He did, however, say he was trying to limit the amount of meat he consumed.
I am disappointed in myself for being so subtle about everything. Very disappointed. I guess I wanted to be as polite as I could to not turn people off of vegetarianism. I also wished I had at least flipped to the page in the vegetarian guides to show everyone the horrific cruelty the animals endure. I just hope whatever I said sticks and that people seriously consider vegetarianism. I'm going to try do a lot more school work

I was very happy to see one of my large magnets hanging on the outside of one of the lockers in the front of the band room today.
However, a girl who has been somewhat nice with me called it lame >.< I don't really know if she knew it was mine, though. Maybe a week or so ago, she also indirectly insulted my trumpet-playing skills. >.< Oh, well. Fuck her. I thought I liked her, but I guess I no longer do
I wonder how long it'll be there. A cleaning person might possibly try ripping it down, and then, when they discover it's a magnet and not a sticker, they'll probably toss it in the garbage.
I wonder who put it there. Really, I only saw little kids grab the larger magnets. I also don't know who is in the classes before mine.
