In a few weeks, I will be getting my permit and also looking for a car! I am so excited, because once I get my license, I'll be able to go wherever I want to without having to worry about my mom actually wanting to go! I am also excited about getting a car. I already got a pro-veg bumper sticker to stick on my future car and am waiting for another to come in the mail. ^_^ I really have to study up for my permit test, but it seems mostly like common sense to me. However, I do know someone in my class who actually failed her test. My mom and I are going to go looking for cars once she gets her income taxes back. She's getting quite a bit more than she was expecting, so hopefully I'll be able to get a good, yet still used, car somewhere. Looking for a car will be fun ^_^. My mom is going to test it out a bit once we get it to make sure it's not total crap. I am a little nervous about driving, but isn't that normal? I'm sure it won't be a problem once I get driving, however. I am also afraid of being nervous while taking the driving test, especially if I get a crappy test-giver or something. What sucks is I have to go to the doctor's office to get this form filled out. Whenever I go to the doctor's for anything, it takes hours to get out because of how many people are usually there. It's immensely boring sitting there doing nothing for so long. However, I am having some foot issues, so maybe I could get those checked out. I am also having other issues I'd rather not discuss, but I don't I'll get that checked out. No, it's not vegetarian-related at all...

I thought I heard about my friend being on anti-depressants. I thought I heard her about being suicidal. I thought I heard her other friends saying she was in the hospital. I was right. Sometimes, it downright sucks to be right. Even when I'd first assumed she was depressed, which was before we were even friends, I was right. Now that she actually told me that she was in the hospital for trying to overdose herself with her anxiety pills and self-harming, I don't know how to feel or what to think. I didn't even imagine that she was still depressed, but I suppose people are good at pretending to be happy. Well, maybe she was happy when I was with her but not other times. I sort of don't have any emotion about it, but that's probably because I'm avoiding thinking about it. I don't want to think about it. I don't want to think about losing her or anyone else to suicide. I don't want anyone to die at all. I can't imagine losing one of my friends to suicide. Not a single one of them. I don't know if I'd be able to cope with that, especially since I know what it's like to be suicidal and to be close to killing oneself... She is the nicest person I've ever met, and she definitely does not deserve to be depressed. I wish I were there for her more. I really do. I probably wouldn't even be invited to her funeral if she were to die, since her parents don't know me, any more. We used to be friends in elementary, too, but then she had to move to another school. She also told me tonight that the same worthless scumbags who used to bully me and sometimes still do are now bullying her in our art class. If I'd noticed them bothering her at all, I would've told them off immediately, I don't want her getting hurt by their idiocy. One of my Internet friends also considers suicide, and I don't know what I'd do if I lost her, either. I don't think I'd find out, but if she were to suddenly stop chatting with me for a long period of time, that'd be a huge hint. I guess the sorrow of possibly losing someone is an emotion I don't let into my heart, even though I know I could easily lose someone at any time. Even my family members aren't in the generally safe area. My mom has horrible health problems, and so does my aunt and uncle. Honestly, though, anyone could die at any given moment-- even the healthy. For example, a kid in my class died last fall in an ATV accident. That was tragic. The first day back to school had to be one of the saddest. Everyone was so depressed, and the feeling permeated through us all. At least we didn't have to face death alone. I couldn't imagine having to go through that with someone I was actually close to. Sure, I wouldn't be alone, but that wouldn't help nearly enough. I don't think I'd even come to school for a while if that happened. If the school tried to preach to me about my attendance, I wouldn't care. Maybe I wouldn't even be able to go back to school if that happened. I guess we have to go through this at one point or another. Realization. It sucks.

Job Choice 1 : Elementary Teacher
Have guinea pigs as a class companion.
Teach them proper care and why they should adopt if they ever want a guinea pig.
Cage at school is only temporary. Take piggy home every day.
NO taking piggy home for the kids.
Veggies fed right before recess.
Out of reach of kids and has a lock on the cage.
If kids want to see the guinea pig during inside recess, they'll have to sit on the ground and either have the guinea pig in their lap or be taught to hold the guinea pig the correct way.
Care brochures near table where cage is.
Could be a good way to foster guinea pigs and teach them that humans are kind. Will have difficult time persuading shelters and rescues of keeping a class companion, however.
If the guinea pig ever passes away, tell them the truth. Have them say goodbye and leaves things in the box if they want.
Educate kids on the symptoms of guinea pig illness.
Large cage, almost like pigs' home cage.
Pages from Petfinder posted on the walls.
"The Animal Corner" posted above in fancy lettering.
Also have cute books in the Animal Corner and maybe a care guide book, even if it's a little two advanced for them (consider ripping out breeding section in case they are confused about sex and stuff like that.)
Make a pen for the guinea pig to run around in while he is out and about. Also good for veggie time. A different kid gets to feed him each day.
Maybe have a field trip once per year to an animal group place, like a shelter or animal rights organization. NO zoos, etc. Maybe a Volunteer Day or something with jobs that little kids could do if a place like that would let little kids do anything.
Make vegan health snacks once a week or something. Teach kids how to make them themselves if they can. Have parents fill out an allergy sheet and inform them that these snacks will be healthy and only fed once per week.
If kids can't afford their own lunch, tell parents that I will either give them money to buy one or provide them a small vegan lunch once per day.
Bring in cat every once in a while with parent permission. Consider temporarily putting Softclaws on cat in case of scratches. Tell kids how de-clawing hurts.
Raise donations for animal shelter or other cause each year. Both monetary and items.
-
Have an anonymous question box where kids could ask questions that they are afraid to in class, like definitions of simple words, so they don't look "stupid" in class. Questions don't have to necessarily have to be academic, however. Tell them that it's also for outside-of-school issues that they want to discuss with me personally during recess when all the other kids are outside or something.
Write book and poetry as a side to teaching.
Buy many educational games for computers at the school, even though the school will probably have their own.
Huge library of books. Kids can borrow one book per week. If another kid wants it at the end of the week, the kid has to give it up. If they don't, the kid can keep it for an extra week.
Teach them a bit on animal rights on an animal rights day. Consider asking parents, first.
Maybe also have a small on-line animal products business on the side for a bit of extra cash and donate much to a local animal rights group.
Music on if kids are good, and it's a good time for music. Kids can bring in their own music, as long as it's appropriate. I will have to listen to it myself, however, first.
Have a contest or something for who gets to design the lav pass.
Extra credit art or writing project due once a week. Different topic each week, though sometimes there will be a time when children can pick their own topic to do a project on. Art project can be anything, from a drawing to a sculpture. Maybe a "Creative Friday."
Homework passes for every 100 on a test to encourage students to do the best they can on tests.
Have kids research in class and create their own hand-outs. Will definitely monitor their Internet access. Maybe give them links to research on. A different group each week.
Have the learning goals of the week posted on board, so kids can see where we're going and stuff and what homework we're going to have in case kids are absent or something.
Spanish word of the week. Not tested on or anything but to teach kids words, so they know for future Spanish classes and speaking Spanish. Maybe use them as a bonus or something on tests.
First day:
Have students write a paper on themselves to introduce themselves to the class. Pass out a survey that will help in picking who they sit by, who should be their partner in projects, etc. Some questions: -What are your favorite hobbies? -What is your favorite animal? -What's your favorite TV show? -What do you want to be when you grow up? -Have you ever had any hard experiences in your life? If so, what? etc.
Tell them that the survey doesn't have to be read in front of class if they don't want it to be.
Teach kids about Internet safety.
Teach kids about proper nutrition (may prevent eating disorders, nutrition deficiencies, obesity, or other problems.)
Quote of the Day
Decorate the room with all the kids' projects. Take down only when there is no more space for new ones. Most of the decorations are the kids' projects.
Monthly newsletter for parents, so they know how the class is doing. Maybe type out a monthly report for each student. Received through e-mail to save paper. Also a student newsletter for the students to read. Include fun facts. Students can also write their own articles for it.
Student of the Month who does the best. Student of the Month receives a special reward, maybe a giftcard or something. Runner ups can also receive rewards, like a stuffed animal or something.
Student of the Year receives a giftcard worth a lot.
Barely any class voting for student rewards. Rewards are based purely on academics.
Reward ideas for academics: -Art set -Giftcards -Non-educational computer games -Book of their choice from library. Will have to go out and buy one and give out the new copy. -Movie tickets for their family and/or friends, depending on size of family. -CD of band of their choice (parents will have to review the lyrics of the songs and approve, first) -Stuffed animals -Board games -Posters -DVD's approved by parents
More rewards for good behavior than punishment for bad.
Teach kids computer skills, like designing a website. Have kids design their own website with their parents' permission. No contact details or personal details. Might not even be real. Will have to think more on this. <--- Maybe only make it available to students, parents, and faculty.
Educate kids thoroughly on drugs.
Have one hour per week where kids are taught non-academic things, like life skills, nutrition, drugs, etc.
Make classroom very comfy with comfortable seats in the corner for play time, nice tables to pull out for play time, etc.
Kids can request a toy to be bought for recess. New toy each month. Must be child-safe.
Additional books bought besides textbooks to aid in teaching and read alongside textbooks. Kids can also borrow these books and will be available through the library.
Some music that can be played: -Children's songs -The Beatles
If there's nothing to do show them movies, old cartoons (CatDog, etc.,) or let them see the guinea pig.
Advanced Word of the Day. Teach them a very intense word. Give as bonuses on tests (maybe the definition of it.)
Have students try to figure out the answers for any questions they have, first, but if they can't, answer it and explain it in details. Give them five to ten minutes to come up with an answer themselves.
If they are going through any problems outside of school that need help from the guidance counselor and not me, talk to them about it, first, for ten minutes or so, and then walk with the to the guidance counselor. Examples: abuse, suicidal thoughts (even though they're only little kids, a few of them do feel suicidal,) etc.
=================================
My mom will probably preach to me on how I could do SO MUCH better and stuff than getting a job as an elementary teacher, but I don't care. Sure, I won't be raking in millions like she'd want me to, but I'll be doing good enough. Plus, who knows, maybe I'll get tons from books and poetry that I write.
My friend wants to become a teacher, too, though I'm not sure what level of education she wants to teach.
