What's your opinion on finding cures using animals? I find this extremely controversial, and I'm a bit undecided myself.
Anyways, I posted this on another forum a while ago, and I think I'll go with this:
Someone actually called my beliefs "Draconian" on that forum. Was that a bit harsh, or is it just me?

I think you know where I stand on this. ^^
I think using them at all is... wrong. There's so many alternatives now that there's no excuse, and really, you're right. We don't need all these cures.
Plus, using animals to help our species is putting out species above any other. And in my opinion, we're the worst species on the planet.

If you want a cure for something, test it on your own species. Thousands of drugs every year get rejected after failing in human trials. Animals are not exactly like humans anatomically, we may have similarities, but on a microscopic, dna etc level we are not the same, just like no two humans or two animals are the same.

Couldn't agree with y'all more. First off, their bodies work and react differently then a humans. Therefore, something they have no negative reaction to, could kill us. Second off, I agree with the part about us not needing a cure. People think deer and mice are over-populated and need to be hunted down, but how come we don't have a hunting season for humans then? We are the most over-populated species of animal on earth! I don't agree with using an animal for anything but to love and nurture.

^^^ Agreed. I actually did my bioethics research paper on animal experimentation last year and I learned that penicillin is lethal to animals, but helps us. There's also several other drugs that were cleared on animals, but killed a lot of people or made a lot of people sick when it was marketed. 98% matching DNA isn't 100%. Plus, the Draize tests are really cruel. Pouring substances in a rabbit's eye and seeing what happens? Not. Okay. That's why I refuse to touch anything animal tested.
