The sky was an apathetic slate color with a mix of faded blue. For a second, I stared as the leaves were being pushed around by the vicious wind, which seemed to me like a ruthless animal hissing at everything in its path. We were on a hill some hundred miles from home. It was mid-fall, so the leaves had turned gold, chocolate, and crimson. A few hundred had fallen down to the ground beneath the hill, whose grass had begun to turn beige. The leaves whipped around us as we stood still for about ten seconds. Then, unexpectedly...
"WILLOW! C'MON!" my best friend in the entire world, Julie, had suddenly shouted in frustration at me. "We cannot keep dilly-dallying like this! We all like to daydream every once in a while, but it's hindering our progress! Come ON!" Julie's face had become stricken with ghost-like pallor from both our stressful, exhaustive trip and the callous, frigid cold of the past few weeks. Her chocolate-brown hair was tucked behind her ears, and she still wore the heavy tan corduroy jacket she'd taken with her for the trip. There was an insignificant hole on the right shoulder of the jacket, and the dirt-caked sleeves had begun to fray just a tad.
