why can't humans offer themselves for the same kind of testing that millions of animals endure? if it meant even one less innocent animal suffered, i'd offer myself to take its place. the only way they're going to find out if something is really safe for humans, after all, is by testing it on actual living, breathing humans.

You're right Avery. But people can offer themselves as test subjects. Actually, studies of medicine call for human trial before it can be put on the market. So why don't we just skip the rats, and go straight to humans? It would cost less, be more accurate, and much more ethical.

of course there are "clinical trials", but that's nothing compared to what the animals have to endure before it even gets to that stage.. it disgusts me to think that people think it's OK for rats to suffer through something that's too apparently awful for humans to endure(so much that it's not allowed for humans to volunteer ourselves for that stage in testing!)
