I've decided to create a new thread for the abortion debate.

Lately, I've been thinking a bit about abortion and whether it is ethical or not. Previously, I was 100% pro-choice but have really started thinking.
The fetus has to be considered as well as the mother. Before recently, I didn't really consider the fetus as much. A potential life (yes, maybe at the time of the abortion a clump of cells) will be ended and will never have the chance to come into the world. What if I or someone I knew had actually been aborted? Not to exist? This is a life we're talking about. A life that never had a chance. If you don't want a baby, you can give the baby up for adoption to a home you believe would be best for him or her. Abortion is permanent.
Sure there is an over-population, but should we destroy a potential life because of this? Does this mean that the person shouldn't have even a chance? This sort of reminds me of how animal shelters euthanize their animals due to over-population...
Now, if the mother's life were in danger, then I believe she definitely has the right to choose.
These are just my thoughts right at the moment. I am not 100% sure on my position as of yet. Maybe I should write somewhere.

I am 110% pro-choice.
I think that the mother is the one carrying the baby, so her opinion on what to do with it is worth more than anybody else's. Combined.
At the point of the abortion, the baby isn't aware of anything, so it isn't like the baby is being killed. And if it was never aware, then it won't ever know what it missed out on. And since there's wayyyyy too many people on the planet, we don't need to give birth to every single baby that comes along anyway.
The only exception to this that I see is two people getting trashed on a Friday night and -OOPS!- there's a baby. No. You screwed up, you take responsibility for it.
But for rape victims, couples that don't want to be pregnant who's birth control (pill/condom/etc.) failed, and everything else like that, the woman has a right to decide.
I know that if I somehow got pregnant and they told me "no abortion for you" I'd look up on the internet how to kill the baby and take care of it myself. -nodnod-

Pro-Choice all the way.
Like what has been said previously, if all these crazy pro-life people SOMEHOW make abortion illegal, people are still going to do it. They're going to do more harm to themselves in the process than what would have been done had it not been illegalized.
I think everyone should have a choice. It's not like the baby is alive and knowing! The only way abortion should not be used is if people use it as their birth control.
Just think. If abortion was illegalized, people who... -carry AIDS or another mother to baby illness.. -A young rape victim who could die because her body is not physically able and/or the baby would be a constant reminder to the rape... -Crackheads who would make their children unknowingly be addicted...
...would all have to carry out the birth, and may or may not give their children up for adoption. I just think everyone deserves a choice. It's not fair.

I'm just reposting what I posted in my blog:
The rights of a few cells should never over-ride the rights of a human. Otherwise we'd be unjustified in killing bacteria via medicinal applications. An unborn child cannot suffer to the extent that a fully functional female human can in a variety of circumstances. Also, said unborn child is essentially a part of the woman so she is justified to take what ever action she deems fit from the moment of conception, accidental or not.
That said, those who claim the child should be put up for adoption fail to notice how many children already need homes (just like the pet overpopulation problem). Putting a child up for adoption is only adding to that problem, not taking away from it.
The following things can occur due to pregnancy and child birth/raising a child:
- Death - Illness - Mental illness/depression - Debt - Break ups - Violence within a relationship (some males don't like their g/fs getting pregnant and will resort to violence to get rid of it if she does not abort) - Miscarriages - Still births - The child could become depressed due to awful life for whatever reason
and much much more. Why risk all this at the expense of a few cells? It's pure madness. And anti abortionists are never willing to pick up the pieces once the baby is born. All they care about is the rights of the unborn child. Once it's born they could care less.

Also, I'd like to add something. No offense if you are republican, too. All these crazy republicans want the government to butt out of everyone's business, they don't want welfare checks, and they want to make abortion illegal. How does this all tie in you may guess? Abortion. These people aren't allowed legally to abort their child. So, in some cases (the "lucky" ones), the parents will send the child to be put up for adoption. Okay, so then a few years pass and this child is never adopted. What happens when they turn 18? They get thrown out on their arses and told to go make a living. How will they get by without welfare, or anything on taht matter? They've never been taught social skills beyond the adoption place or foster home. In some cases, they've never interacted the way a family would. So this means they're disfunctional, without a job or way to make money (thank the republicans on trying to get rid of welfare), and will most likely turn to drugs or crime. I will get off of my soap box now. That was my rant for the day.
