I totally agree. I am only a vegetarian because my parents won't let me become vegan. I always choose began options when I can but sometimes my parents force me to eat eggs and dairy X(. Guess what I'm doing as soon as I turn 18? =J

They cannot shove food down your throat. How exactly do they force you?

Ummm the last time I tried they locked the non vegan foods away until I ate something (about a day later when I realized they were serious). I guess it doesn't really count as starvation so I couldn't press charges or anything but I didn't really have a choice. I'm not old enough to drive anywhere to get food. I am planning on bringing it up politely again, I wish they would understand.

What the... Whether it's illegal or not, it is still forceful and wrong. That is absolutely horrible. Are there any stores you can walk to yourself that have enough foods for a vegan? I'm so sorry about how your parents wouldn't even let you eat if you didn't give up being a vegan. Maybe if you keep trying, though, and show them some Internet sites that promote veganism if you haven't already, you can win. Don't give up. Try being very persistent.

No not really. But i've decided to take a less forceful and an agressive approach to convincing them. I mean I've only been a vegetarian for about 6 months, the transition might be sort of fast for them. My mom thinks that I am suffering from lack of protien even though I eat plenty of nuts, legumes and soy products (endamame! YUM!). I think she's mainly worried for my health and she doesn't believe that the stuff about vegans being healthier is true. Instead she buys organic milk and free range eggs which are better than nothing but it's not where I want to be. I love my parents and I know they're trying to do what they think is best for me but I wish they woukd respect my wishes more.

Yea but sometimes the more things you say the less likely people are to listen. For example (I actually support PETA this is just an example) PETA has some great activists but they are so in everyones bussiness that many people put negative spins on them before they listen. Before I became veg I had some rather negative steriotypical opinions about them before I had even read anything about them, only because of others opinions. So many people who constantly bring it up are discredited. If someone ever asks me why I don't eat cheese or gummi bears or whatever I tell them but I don't bring it up every five minutes and I think it gets people thinking more. Another example, I was on a whale watch and my family and friends were talking about how bad whaling was and how they were glad we don't use whale products anymore. I politely informed them about cetyl palmiate ( idk how to spell) and how it was made from dolphins. A few days later I was shopping with my family, I saw my mom read the back if a lotion bottle she usually buys then put it back. I read the back, cetyl palmiate was an ingrediant. My family had never listened to me before when I constantly spoke about collagen (aka gelatin) in products. I felt pretty good =J

I also read that male chicks in the egg laying industry are thrown out (live) with the trash. The most depressing thing I've seen in a while was a chick standing on a garbage bag and crying for its mother. Last time I went up to the property I heard a chick crying, went and picked it up, then reunited it with its mother. It was terrified all by itself! So I can only imagine what those chicks feel. (As a side note, the chicks and gosling I've held were incredibly soft! I couldn't believe they were feathers! And so cute too. <3) I'm resisting my parents since they're big milk drinkers, but I really love ice cream and don't feel like scanning the ingredients of everything to make sure there's no eggs/milk. Plus a lot of my favorite foods have them as ingredients (chocolate, pancakes, french toast). I'll probably try going vegan if I can stick to being vegetarian for over a year. But for right now it's still incredibly hard not to ask my parents for some chicken drummies and riblets.

I never knew about the baby male chicks and cows. That is so sad! But are you sure all of the companies do that? Because, like Azlydin, I would be hard for me to give up ice cream and chocolate. Actually, pretty much impossible. So my mom always buys organic, but the animals still might be mistreated. Do you know of any products sold in stores where the animals are definitely not mistreated?

They make ice cream alternatives that taste just as good as the real thing. In fact, some, in my opinion, taste even better.
Also, there are vegan chocolates out there. My favorite would be Green & Blacks Cherry Dark Chocolate bar, which is their only vegan chocolate bar, as far as I know. It is downright delicious. It is also organic and can be found at Target as well as Wegmans, which is a grocery store near me.
