Killing insects and spiders simply because they are "annoying" or "pests" or even "dangerous" is just an excuse for speciesism. For anyone who disagrees: Would you kill a human child, or any other animal, simply because he/she is annoying? I've seen plenty of annoying little kids, actually plenty of annoying teenagers and adults too, but I don't kill them, nor would I even if the police allowed it. Someone at peta2 put it perfectly: "i dont think that if there aboxious we should kill them, i mean no one shot bush...o_0" When I find bugs in my house, I catch them with my hands, or with stinging bugs and really fast bugs I put a clear plastic container over them and slip paper under it to contain them, and take them outside. Not at all for my sake, I don't mind them and I'd much rather be doing something else, but I know that they are much better off outside. As for mosquitoes, I blow on them or lightly and carefully brush them off. Though I usually stay inside in summer, because of the bugs and because of the heat. I prefer Winter. (Yes, Winter gets capitalized but summer doesn't. ) "It definitely was not happy, but at least it's better than getting caught in one of the fly ribbons my mom put up." Actually, the fly was probably just upset about being contained in your hands or whatever you caught him/her with. I doubt that a fly prefers the house to nature. You did the right thing, thank you. -SV Agreed @ speciesism. That said, I'm scared of most creepy crawlies, so my dad puts them outside. We also have a humane bug catcher somewhere. Even 'dangerous' bugs shouldn't be killed.....they should just be removed safely. Not a bugs fault it was born dangerous, it's just how it is in order to survive.

yeah, i hate it when people kill bugs for any reason. i never kill bugs, not because im vegan, but because why should i? and what did they do to deserve it? luckily bugs dont feel pain, so its not the end of the world if you step on one.
on a slightly random note; i love bees and slugs, they're so neat!

How do you know that they do not feel pain?

Yep...bugs can feel pain...if they didn't feel pain they wouldn't try to escape from obvious harmful actions - like being eaten alive, etc.

speaking of bugs, the other day at school there was a big spider on the floor in the cafeteria. these girls started screaming about it, as if it was going to eat them. everyone in the cafeteria was staring at them, it went on for about 2 minutes (that's a lot of screaming). finally i saw the spider and before anyone could stomp in him/her i picked 'em and put 'em outside, then some people started clapping for me! it made me really happy.

definitely. someone would have squashed him for sure, without even a smudge on their conscience. i have been laughed at for picking up worms and moving them out of the sidewalk and to safety. i dont mind, really
